A living room opening to an olive garden, with a curved bouclé sofa, a travertine table and a stone stair

Location

Completed

Type
Garden house
Area
290 m²

The olive tree was there long before the house, and the client asked us to design every room so it could be seen. The living room opens fully onto it, with a sliding wall of glass that disappears into the plaster.

Nothing in the room has a hard corner. The sofa curves around a travertine table cut from a single piece, the stair rises in rounded plaster steps, and even the ceiling opening above the stair is an arc.

In late afternoon the sun comes through the tree and throws moving shadows across the rug. We kept the palette to sand, stone and olive so that the light, not the furniture, is what you notice.
